A flattish route to Bridlington (for fish and chips?) and back.

Start:

6:00 am, Saturday 10 May 2008: Meltham Scout & Guide HQ, Meltham, West Yorkshire.

Butty’s Brid Trip. As well as being a Brevet de Randonneurs Mondiaux event, it is part of the CTC West Yorkshire DA Events Programme and is registered with the District Associations Tourist Competition.

The ride starts on Saturday 5 May 2007 at 6am at Meltham Scout and Guide HQ. This is situated on the outskirts of Meltham on the B6108 Huddersfield – Meltham road, about 800m from the crossroads in the centre of Meltham. There is very little car parking at the event HQ, and other users of the hall may need any available space during the event. Nor is on-road parking a possibility. There is, however, ample free public parking in the centre of Meltham behind the bus station. To find the car park, continue towards Meltham centre for about 600m, and turn left into Carlyle Street.

Butty’s Brid Trip was originally set up by Andrew Butterworth, and I am indebted to him for the detailed organization which has allowed me to take over without too much fuss. A few slight changes have been made to the original route, notably the inclusion of two controls in the return leg of the ride rather than the one included hitherto, and a different finish section which takes riders away from a busy road into Huddersfield (and incidentally reduces the distance slightly).

As before, overnight accommodation (floor sleeping) will be available at the event HQ from Friday night , when the hall will be open from approximately 8:00pm, after the Scouts have finished. In order to defray costs, I will have to make a charge of £3 for this, to include a breakfast of cereals, toast etc. It would be helpful for me if anybody wanting to use this facility would let me know in advance, particularly if you plan to arrive late on the Friday night. Alternatively, you can contact the Holmfirth Tourist Information Centre (01484 222444) for details of local B&B accommodation.

Depending upon your time of return, I am hoping to have some food available, and of course if you want to get some sleep afterwards, the hall will be available for your use until approximately 9:30am on Sunday morning.
